Modular and adaptable solution on the way: the Sharp/NEC MultiSync UN552 video wall display! The slim design of the MultiSync UN552 impresses with a bezel of only 3.5 mm, so you can put together a high-resolution video wall with barely visible image transitions. With a brightness of 700 cd/m², the Full HD resolution with 1920 x 1080 pixels and a 24/7 runtime, you get the perfect display of your content around the clock. With these parameters, the display can be used in rooms with bright surroundings, such as rooms with many windows or skylights. The MultiSync UN552 offers a high level of connectivity, numerous connection options and the integrated USB media player, giving you enhanced connectivity. The video wall display also allows you to integrate customised signage solutions via the OMi (Open Modular Intelligence) concept: The Raspberry Pi Module 3 or OPS plug-in PCs with scalable computing power can be added. The UN552 can be installed in both portrait and landscape format, allowing you to create free-form arrangements, sculptures or wall designs that will catch everyone's eye. This makes the Sharp/NEC MultiSync UN552 ideal for signage applications in retail, corporate communications, studio environments and events. However, video wall displays are not only used as a digital signage solution, but are also frequently used in operations control centres, as various information can be displayed centrally and clearly on them.
Basically, the installation of a video wall is of course more complex compared to a normal display. After all, there should not be any disturbing gaps between the installed displays, but the devices should be mounted 'butt to butt'. In addition, the individual displays almost always have to be calibrated. Even flat screens of the same type usually show slightly different colours and brightness. In a video wall, however, a completely homogeneous picture should be shown. It's a good thing that Sharp/NEC helps you out here with the MultiSync UN552: the displays are namely calibrated ex works with standard values for brightness and colour homogeneity, so that the visual performance of all the displays in the video wall is already almost perfect at the time of installation and, above all, saves you time, but also guarantees that the displays are set up quickly and on schedule, even in large and complex projects. Pre-defined picture settings for standard applications such as signage allow for quick set-up.
The MultiSync UN552 features NEC's proprietary
In the course of time, the brightness and colour temperature of LCDs change, which is often particularly noticeable in the area of the display corners (colour drift). The NEC Display Wall Calibrator software ensures colour homogeneity and authenticity across the entire video wall surface, guaranteeing a perfectly matched image across all displays. With NEC's video wall calibration system, multiple displays in a video wall can be matched to each other. This gives each UN552 display the most similar colour characteristics possible. This gives the illusion that the video wall is one large screen. For more information you can follow this link. With the Sharp/NEC MultiSync UN552, you do not have to calibrate the individual displays as often, so the intervals are longer. The result for you: you save considerable costs and time, because the calibration interval is up to 3.5 times longer than with conventional models.
Let's stay with the uncomplicated installation of the MultiSync UN552: the video wall display also offers the TileMatrix function, which brings considerable time and cost advantages, especially for larger and multiple video wall installations. With the TileMatrix function, only the first display is configured and then the settings are automatically transferred to all other displays of the video wall using the daisy chain function.
While we're on the subject of connections, let's move on to the subject of connections. The MultiSync UN552 video wall display offers a wide range of connections. It has two HDMI and two DisplayPort inputs and one HDMI and one DisplayPort output, which support signals up to 4K UHD video (3840×2160). As mentioned earlier, the TileMatrix function daisy-chains any input signal up to UHD resolution to the entire video wall, giving you crisp, clear content. In addition, the HDMI inputs allow HDR signals to be displayed, so that strong contrasts make light and dark elements in the picture more vivid, ensuring detailed and natural colours.
The UN552 has other features to simplify your installation and operation: The built-in MediaPlayer plays your digital signage content directly from a USB stick (via USB 2.0 connection) or MicroSD card, without the need for additional devices. No annoying additional cables or digital signage software programmes. It's easy and saves time and money. Directly after installation, your content is automatically played at the desired times with the help of the autostart scheduler. In addition, you can integrate more processing power: With the OMi (Open Modular Intelligence) concept, customised digital signage solutions can be created by seamlessly integrating Raspberry Pi modules or OPS plug-in computers with scalable computing power into the display (possible optional OPS modules: HDBaseT receiver,
As mentioned, you can also integrate the Raspberry Pi 3 module into the UN552 video wall display: It is an open-platform solution that already has a variety of open-source solutions accessible by the global Raspberry Pi developer community. Sharp/NEC has partnerships with leading software providers, so you can directly access various third-party content management systems. The list of supported operating systems is long and includes Raspbian, Ubuntu and other Linux distributions, as well as Windows 10 IoT Core. The Ethernet and USB ports allow you to easily connect it to a network or equip it with external devices such as a mouse, keyboard or touchpad. The expanded RAM and smart digital signage features such as Watch Dog Timer and Real Time Clock for scheduling make the Raspberry Pi Compute Module an extremely clever and cost-effective upgrade option for any professional signage display.
Sharp/NEC also designed the control system to be as simple as possible: Thanks to integrated LAN and the NaViSet Administrator 2 software tool, the UN552 display can be controlled via the network. All connected NEC devices can be managed from a central location. Change settings or perform operations on the units, such as power on/off, change input signal, mute, etc., or check settings and/or parameters on a regular basis. These are just a few of the functions you get with the NaViSet Administrator 2 software tool. For more information you can simply follow this link. Your administration effort and the associated costs are reduced - this is how resource-saving device management works!
Let's list a few more important facts about picture quality: Even displays of the same type usually show slightly different colours and brightness. In a video wall, however, a completely homogeneous picture should be shown. Also, the reproduction of images with fast movements can usually not be properly matched on individual displays. However, the Sharp/NEC Frame Compensation and the vertical scan reverse of the MultiSync UN552 prevent these typical image shifts by adjusting the timing of each frame individually, thus achieving perfect content synchronisation and harmonious image reproduction. This gives you an uninterrupted picture even for content with fast movements, such as a small product video of a lady walking along wearing new shoes.
An S-IPS panel has been installed in the Sharp/NEC MultiSync UN552. This has the advantage that your content can still be recognised very well when you look at the display from the side. IPS displays are known for their wide viewing angles and natural, precise colours. The panel is also anti-reflective (Pro Haze level of 28%), so you don't have to worry about reflections from windows or other light sources and a distortion-free image of your content is guaranteed. The Haze filter diffuses the light instead of reflecting it, so even direct light doesn't matter. So if you choose a location with bright ambient light for your video wall, the readability of your content is not at risk.
Especially with video wall installations, attention should be paid to the temperature of each individual display, as this is crucial for the reliable and long-lasting operation of the MultiSync UN552. Without thermal management, the displays in the upper part of the video wall are exposed to higher temperatures than in the lower part. As a result, the picture quality would suffer and, of course, the life of the display would be shortened. That is why Sharp/NEC has taken precautions with the MultiSync UN552 and integrated a unique heat management system. The heat is distributed efficiently and the temperature is thus evenly distributed to the entire video wall. This additional thermal protection, as well as internal temperature sensors, allows the display to be used for 24/7 continuous operation during its warranty life.
Finally, a word about mounting: Each UM552 display has a VESA hole of 400x400 mm, which means you can use any bracket with these dimensions. You can find suitable mounts in our shop. You only need to pay attention to two aspects: Firstly, the VESA standard and secondly, the maximum load capacity of the mount (display weight UM552: 25.5 kg). With the right bracket, mounting is then very easy. You can mount the display on the wall, but we recommend a bracket with the option of fine adjustment and with a pop-out function for installation. This enables a quick exchange or repair of individual monitors. The defective unit can simply be removed from the wall without having to dismantle it completely. In addition to the standard landscape installation, the displays can also be operated in portrait mode. The content is automatically rotated in this case. Sharp/NEC also impresses with a narrow bar of 3.5 mm from frame to frame (2.3 mm O/L, 1.2mm U/R). This means that when you combine several UM552 displays, you get an excellent picture without any annoying, thick bars between the displays. This point is a huge plus for many companies, as excessively thick frames lead to unsightly interruptions of the image during presentations or when displaying tables and text. With the UM552, this negative feature is almost completely absent.
Conclusion on the Sharp/NEC MultiSync UN552
Probably the biggest advantage is the calibration options of the Sharp/NEC MultiSync UN552 - on the one hand, they offer a quick set-up and thus save time and money, and on the other hand, you can be sure that the picture quality is ensured and a homogeneous picture is created. The MultiSync UN552's 24/7 operation and thermal management ensure that you get a long-lasting video wall solution. The UN552 video wall display also allows you to integrate customised signage solutions via the OMi concept (Open Modular Intelligence) and thus add more processing power. We therefore give it a clear buy recommendation, especially if you are looking for a long-term, professional solution.
