Samsung's MagicInfo Datalink is a useful addition to Samsung MagicInfo. Among other things, Samsung Datalink allows you to work with dynamic prices and display them in a created template at the necessary place. You are probably all familiar with the classic display screens in an airport. On them you usually find the departure time, the gate and the boarding time. With MagicInfo, you could easily create such a template yourself and then display it. However, in order to make changes to the flight data, you would have to constantly log into the author and manually adjust all the lines. With MagicInfo Datalink, this can be simplified considerably and, if desired, fully automated.

Let us show an example. You basically have 6 different table columns on a display:

• Departure time: Column A
• Airline: Column B
• Destination: Column C
• Terminal: column D
• Gate: Column E
• Boarding time: Column F

Once we have worked out this basis, we now need some kind of table file, i.e. an XML, an Excel table or similar, so that we can assign this information to the appropriate column and cell. This file can be created very easily and quickly in Excel. See this simple example here:

After creating the Excel file, simply save it at on a network drive on a PC or in an FTP directory and then link it once to the DataLink server at . After the file has been loaded into the DataLink server

After the file has been read into the data link server, you are finished at this point. 

This is really all relatively simple and it doesn't get much more complicated than this.

After this is done, you go back to the MagicInfo Author and create the datalink template addressed at the beginning according to your wishes. Create a background of your choice, write your desired texts such as gate, airline, departure times, etc. at the desired position and then determine via drag&drop which cell should appear at the respective position. If you publish the finished data link template on the display, the dynamic fields are automatically filled with the available table contents from the respective column and cell. If you now open the Excel or XML file and manually enter   new flight times, a new gate, etc., the display is updated in real time. Of course, you can also have the table file changed automatically. In this case, you only have to output the file created by a machine or programme and always store it with the same file name on the same memory location. As soon as Datalink detects a change in the file, the update is initiated in real time. Done.

It is not easy to describe this. But it only sounds more complicated than it really is. The airport is just an example, even in gastronomy you could equip your products with dynamic prices or you wouldn't have to change the entire template every time the price of a product changes. Samsung MagicInfo and Datalink are also often used in production lines. This way, employees can see on a large display at what speed work is currently being done, which machine is not working at the moment or even whether has already reached the desired target. Since most machines in production lines are nowadays able to output all values as XLM, one can simply connect this XML to the Datalink server and have it constantly updated . Not a big effort, but a great result. 

Basically, it is important to understand that you only have this effort once. Once the datalink template is created and all dynamic content is assigned, editing the table file will be sufficient in the future and no staff member would need to log into a server or author anywhere just to make changes to that content. This means that there is no danger of someone accidentally deleting or reworking the template that has been created.

To use Samsung MagicInfo Datalink, it is mandatory that you have an existing MagicInfo Server with at least one Samsung MagicInfo Unified-Premium licence for each display, to be used with Datalink content. You only need one Datalink licence, no matter how many displays you use with your MagicInfo Server, as long as the displays just each have a Unified-Premium licence. You will receive the installation file for the server by e-mail after purchase. When installing, please note that the MagicInfo Server and MagicInfo Datalink cannot run on the same PC or server. You would either need two PCs each with a Windows operating system or you install each server on a virtual machine with its own Windows server operating system. We recommend Windows Server 2016. In addition, the computer or server must be designed for 24/7 operation and should include appropriate hardware and service packages with 24-hour response time.
