Microsoft is continuing the success story of the Surface Hub and, with the latest generation of the Surface Hub, is offering long-awaited functions that take working with the Hub to a whole new level. With the Hub 3, the interactive 50-inch touchscreen can now be used in portrait and landscape format and rotated flexibly. The enhanced Surface Hub 3 features the same design, so there are no differences in size or colour to the Hub 2. The Hub 3 is still available in 50 and 85 inch sizes. It is also great that the practical Hub 2 accessories are fully compatible. This means that the popular APC battery can still be used with the Hub 3 and all Steelcase mounts can also be used with the new Surface Hubs.
The Hub 3 is also the first touch whiteboard on which Teams Rooms can now also be run under Windows. The Hub 3 is more than just a digital screen. It offers the best Microsoft Teams experience on the market.

Teams Rooms on the Surface Hub 3
Microsoft Teams Rooms is designed as an all-in-one conference system. It is intended to replace individual remote meeting devices such as webcams and televisions. Microsoft points out that Teams Rooms on Windows provides new functions that are not possible on Android or other MTR devices. These include additional video layouts, chat channel modes and management functions for both users and administrators. Copilot will also be included. Microsoft Copilot will become your daily AI companion - where data protection and the security of your data are paramount and will make your daily work much easier.
The new Team Rooms on Windows naturally also supports team functions such as Front Row for video conferencing. This means that the Surface Hub 3 is now also suitable for hybrid meetings and should no longer be missing from any meeting or conference room.
Upgrade Microsoft Hub 2S to Hub 3
Existing Hub 2S devices will have the option to upgrade, which is really great news. This means that an existing Surface Hub 2S device can easily be upgraded to a Hub 3. For this purpose, Microsoft will provide a so-called Computer Catridge (called the Microsoft Surface Hub 3 Business Package) from December 2023. The Hub 3 Business package VXN-00004 is simply exchanged for the existing catridge in the Hub 2S.
The replacement does not require any specialist knowledge and can easily be carried out by non-experts. Simply disconnect all cables and loosen the locking screw. Pull out the old catridge and plug in the new one. Now just tighten the locking screw again, plug the cables back in and restart the Surface Hub 2S. The video also shows how easy it really is.
Simple management from a distance
To ensure smooth operation, the management of all existing devices is a complex task, especially in larger companies or at universities. Here too, Microsoft offers the right solution with the Surface Hub 3. In addition to Microsoft Intune and third-party MDM providers, the Surface Hub 3 can also be managed remotely via the Microsoft Teams Admin Centre and the new Microsoft Teams Rooms Pro Management Portal. This allows you to monitor and manage all devices centrally. This not only facilitates the work of the IT department, but is also a real improvement for users in the meeting rooms. The Teams Rooms Pro management service is a cloud-based management portal that enables proactive monitoring and updating of Microsoft Teams Rooms devices and their peripherals. The Pro management solution is aimed at organisations that want to optimise the meeting experience and monitor and manage their Teams Rooms devices in real time and be notified of errors and issues via ticket, almost in real time.
